Chaser [Review of the game]
And you knew that in Slovakia there are talented developers? No? So, you did not play Chaser from the Slovak studio of Cauldron developers. These guys, having seemed to make an ordinary old -school shooter in a futuristic entourage, were able to show themselves dignity. A talented approach to the battered formula of the first -person action movie and a familiar plot about amnesia of the protagonist, replete with all the cliches of science fiction in space, was enough to be attracted to the attention of fans of the genre and even be remembered by them after years after years.
How it turns out so? – You ask. I will explain it to you in my article.
Slipped – fell, woke up – GibS.
Chaser, which for some reason we had published with the subtitle “Remember everything”, was released in 2003 and was even reprinted in 2011. This is a mundane sai-fi action, the events of which take place in the near future, where the evil Corporation Marscorp will terrace Mars and shuts with ordinary people led by a merciless director.
Meet the protagonist John Chaiser.
You play the role of John Chaiser, who throughout history wants to kill, it seems, almost every second character of the game. Our main character does not remember who he is and who he was in the past. Once, without knowing it, a detachment of well -armed soldiers instantly attacks a certain space station on John, killing all local staff. Not without our help, he manages to flee on the capsule, as it should be according to the canons of a militant, with a gradually falling apart and exploding space station to Earth and continue his adventure there. Why is he constantly persecuted and want to kill him why he was like the hero Arnold Schwarzenegger from the film “Remember everything” so pulls on Mars? It is these issues that will torment John Chaiser from the very beginning to the interchange that knocks down at the end.
The shooter of the https://gamblingdata.net/casinos/snatch-casino/ old school.
Chaser Schuer of an old school with all the ensuing nuances, such as corridor levels, hopelessly stupid AI of enemies and someone neatly stacked first-aid kits and body armor behind every angle. In fact, the game follows all possible templates of the first -person shooters and this involuntarily evokes boredom and fatigue. We just go forward and shoot at enemies in very rare cases, doing something else.
For example, in the game there is a stealth ureth and fortunately it is only one, literally at the very beginning after the prologue, because if there were more such moments, it would be more difficult to treat it more difficult. This stealth ureth is boring and instead of dynamic gameplay, we should not catch the eyes of stupid enemies, who, although brainless, but immediately notice us, after which it follows the end of the game.
Apart from this stealth room chaser is a non-stop action-free fighter that never reduces the momentum, where we contacted street gangs and Yakuza, we participate in fierce shootings on different locations from street slums to snowy military bases.
In shootouts there is always a place of exciting katsen, scribbled events and sometimes they work impressively. Chaser tried to combine all the best that was in the genre in those distant years. She manages to interest the player thanks to dynamic shootouts, impressive effects and some well -developed, but very linear levels. You constantly shoot crowds of enemies running out of the doors, jumping out of the corner or vilely protruding from the windows of houses. Glasses are shaking on the locations, the blood of the opponents splashes on the walls, at times the elements of the scenery are exploding, then somehow impressively fall in front of your nose. Bullets fly with bright flashes from a muzzle of weapons, grenades explode and throw enemies to the ceiling, all this is very fun and brutal.
At your disposal, a large selection of weapons: assault rifles according to the type M-16, FAMAS, shotgun, machine guns. Some of them are made in a futuristic style. They have a stylish design and delicious reloading animation.
There is also an “adrenaline regime”, in other words an analogue of “Slow down of the Time”, in the manner of Max Payne and John Wu films. To be honest, a rather useless thing. So much so that I did not even know about its existence in the game until the very end, but it could still be useful in some extremely heavy episodes.
Visually Chaser is a pretty impressive game all the more from a small developer. Cloaknt’s corporate graphics engine copes well with large levels, high details of textures, bright effects and plausible lighting. The animation, however, is somewhat clumsy, the characters move in jerks, and at times it is very striking, as well as problems with the corpses of enemies, which will either climb into the wall, then they will drown under the floor. But again, we make a discount, the game was made by a tiny group of developers. Given this, the quality of work at a high level.
One of the most memorable melodies at a very dentist and difficult level with a ton of opponents.
_ _ _
The soundtrack and very pleasant, every melody of which goes well with a particular location in the game. In it, in fact, there is nothing of such an outstanding one, but it creates a good mood and supports the futuristic atmosphere.
The Cauldron studio also a plot and its presentation. No, it is quite clicked and everything that you will be shown here have already seen many times in various science fiction films and video games, nevertheless, the authors still manage to bother your attention, which obviously indicates that there were very talented people behind the game.
Catcans in the game are created with talented directing and competent installation. Using fascinating angles, they will keep you from the screens of monitors in anticipation of the further development of events. The plot is intriguing and is interesting enough to prevent you from getting bored, but completely not memorable. You are unlikely to remember the story or even the unexpected denouement of this game after a few years. Chaser is not such a game.
Chaser is not a bad game. There is a charm here, a wonderful surroundings of a near future and it is not boring to play in it. In general, she is quite good, stylish and interesting. It has a lot of exciting old -school shooter and a fairly strong plot. Just even making a discount at the time of its release, this is not enough to be a truly unforgettable. Despite all its virtues, it stands out little among thousands of jokes in the first person. She lacks innovation, distinguishing gameplay elements or an unusual implementation of such. This is a solid old -school shooter and if you do not need more, then you will like it.
You know, when I decided to write about her, I decided to assess her a “passage”, but then refreshing some moments in her memory and remembering that, despite her shortcomings, she still managed to leave a very good impression of herself, I changed my mind. Chaser is essentially a “pass”, but “commendable” in practice. No matter how it sounds, but it is. This is the most ordinary first -person shooter, but made with a soul. What can I say … that is what talented developers mean.
